Matt and Catherine Fenner
7931 Bishop Lake Rd N
The Fenners, now empty nesters, moved to Deercreek in 2009 for its proximity to schools and work, as well as the security of a gated community.
Catherine and Matt particularly like the focal point of their yard, a beautiful working fountain on the walkway to the front door. The fountain is surrounded by blue daze and the path to the door is accentuated by loropetalum and boxwood. Two tall hollies guard that door.
A huge planting of variegated ginger fills the bed on the left side of the lawn. Mature viburnum, large boxwoods, and other greens line the right foundation. A short row of variegated ligustrum gives color to the middle of this side. Two crepe myrtles complete the picture, a light pink on the far left and a dark pink along the driveway.
Matt mentioned that a family of 5 deer have moved into the natural area across the street. As a testament to the Fenners careful selection of deer resistant plants, the “notorious 5” have not touched their yard, so far. However, those 5 have been seen chomping on the neighbors plants in broad daylight by the morning walkers in Deercreek.
This writer (Louise Gentry) has been stopped twice by “the 5” while driving on Bishop Lake West as these deer walk, not run, across the road from between houses to the 18th tee. The second time they forgot the baby! As I lifted my foot off the brake, that baby stopped right in front of my car for a second or two before meandering onto the grass and out of sight down the fairway.
