As the holiday season approaches its peak, here are some things to remember.
Always remember safety when buying gifts, especially for children and young people. Motorized scooters and bicycles are extremely dangerous, not only because of who operates them but because their size can cause other drivers to not see them. Plus, in Deercreek residents can be cited for allowing unlicensed drivers to operate motorized vehicles on the community roads.
As always, be watchful for your security and your possessions’ security. If shopping, be aware of your surroundings and stay in well-lit areas at all times. Even while parked at residences in Deercreek all vehicles should be locked with no valuables in sight. Homes should be locked as well. Deercreek is a restricted-access community, not a secure community. Packages left at the front doors can be attractive as well. There are lots of external visitors in Deercreek every day. Taking packages left at doors could be an easy task.
This is a great time to clean up permanent guest lists. You may find there are names there of people who are deceased, have moved away or vendors with whom you no longer do business. The leaner lists also help the guards to more quickly find guest names as they arrive. If help is needed to reduce the lists, the guard captain will be glad to assist you.
Please be sure to enter guest names in the entry system BEFORE your event. Entering them 24 hours in advance is the best practice. Entering the name five minutes before the start of the event can result in a delayed entry for the guest if the system is slow in updating the name.
Questions arise from time to time as to who to call in an emergency. The answer is ALWAYS to call 911 first, then alert the guards. Calling the guards first delays the response, the guards are not trained for all types of emergencies, and may not be able to answer questions from the 911 dispatchers.
Residents who are going to be away from their homes for a period of time during the holidays can complete a form at the guardhouse, and the guards will check on the residence periodically to make sure everything is OK.
