During The Great Depression, five women from very different backgrounds overcome obstacles as they deliver books on horseback in remote regions of the Appalachian Mountains. Based on the real-life Pack Horse Library Project, a program of the Works Progress Administration program (1935-1943), the novel is a love letter to friendship, resilience, and learning.
