One of our amazing residents, Ellye Smith Aull, arranged to collect food donations (& any non-perishables) on January 17-18, in aid of the MLK Food Drive held by News4Jax, which benefited Feeding North East Florida.
Ellye and her family left donation bins by a variety of mailboxes throughout the neighborhood, collecting items throughout the day to ensure no food was left overnight, and also offered to collect any donations if people could not get to a box. The response was amazing, with 634 items donated across the 2 days.
This was organized by Ellye as a way to teach some of the meaning of Martin Luther King day to her six year old daughter, focusing on the service to your community aspect. We would like to thank Ellye and her family for such a wonderful idea, and the whole of Deercreek for once again showing what a wonderful, generous community we live in!
